|Webometrics Ranking 2014 – Top African Universities|

The most recent Ranking Web of World Universities (or Webometrics Ranking) has been published.
Since 2004, the Ranking Web of World Universities (or Webometrics Ranking) has been published twice a year covering more than 20,000 Higher Education Institutions worldwide. The latest results have just been published and in the list are over 1000 African Universities – 17 of the 22 DRUSSA Universities feature in the top 100 African universities (see table below). In the global ranking five African Universities (University of Cape Town, Cairo University, Stellenbosch University, University of Pretoria and University of the Witwatersrand) appear in the Top 500. This is up from two years ago when only 2 African universities were in the top 500 (University of Cape Town and Stellenbosch University).
The Webometrics Ranking, is a ranking system for the world's universities based on a composite indicator that takes into account both visibility and activity measures. The visibility measure counts all the external inlinks that the University webdomain receives from third parties. The activity measure considers:
Webometrics provides ranking of individual institutions, listed by region and by country. As noted above, in the African region DRUSSA universities are well represented, most falling in the top 100. A number of DRUSSA Universities are ranked first in their country (see here for more details).
