Mauritius Higher Education Institutions and Research Uptake: Research Responses to Development Priorities Print

One element of the DRUSSA programme’s Research Uptake approach is to foster university higher education policy dialogue. The University of Mauritius organized a symposium on 27th November 2015 entitled, “Mauritius Higher Education Institutions and Research Uptake: Research Responses to Development Priorities”. 

The one-day Policy Symposium was held to create an enabling platform for effective deliberations among key stakeholders and actors in the educational sector in Mauritius. Primarily, the Higher Education Policy Symposium aimed at engaging stakeholders to solicit their views and opinions on how higher educational policies, plans and strategies should be formulated to encourage research uptake practices and dialogue between policy makers and academics. The University of Mauritius was pleased to have among its guests to this Symposium Mrs Hannah Halder from the ACU.

The Symposium brought, for the first time on a common platform, Academics and Policy Makers to promote dialogue and a greater understanding between each other. The Symposium assisted in promoting confidence among the policy community in valuing the quality, relevance and potential of research undertaken at the University of Mauritius. Additionally this initiative supported interactions that allow members of the academia to better understand the policy directions, enable them to consider potential developmental outcomes of their research and where appropriate establish research agenda that can also support national policy agendas. Different presentations of research uptake by Academics from the University of Mauritius and other Tertiary Educations Institutions were convened.

The dialogue was mainly focused on higher education policy and mechanism that stimulate both the supply of and demand for development focused research and wider adoption of research uptake practices within the higher education sector.
