Welcome to the DRUSSA eAlert for August, which is all about giving you an at-a-glance update on DRUSSA activities and what is new on, as well as putting key networking events on your radar.

INTERESTING ONLINE READ: DRUSSA Literature Review on Knowledge Utilisation

An output of the DRUSSA programme is a literature review in the field of Knowledge Utilisation. 

If you are a scholar of practitioner interested in learning more about a range of literature on research uptake and utilisation the DRUSSA Handbook Series: Literature Review on Knowledge Utilisation is a must-read. This online resource brings you five essays on key Knowledge Utilisation topics.
USEFUL MATERIAL NOW ONLINE: DRUSSA Research Uptake Management Short Course Learning Resource

The DRUSSA short course Learning Resource is a record of the readings and documents used in the eight modules of in-service short-course training in Research Uptake delivered by DRUSSA partner, CREST, over the past three years. It is useful for university staff who are considering how to manage Research Uptake in their institutions.

In April this year nominees from the DRUSSA universities gathered in Kigali, Rwanda. This was the first face-to–face training event held for participants in the Research Uptake Communications community of practice.

The event supplemented the digital mentoring and learning approach that is a unique feature of the annual Research Uptake Communications (RUC) campaign. RUC mentor Louise McCann explains the RUC team approach followed by features compiled by the Research Uptake Communicators.  WHAT'S ON: DRUSSA Programme activities September/October 2015

There are a number of DRUSSA activities taking place during September and October, including university visits to Southern Africa in September and a visit to Nigeria in October.

21 September – University of Limpopo
23 September – University of Fort Hare
28-29 September – University of Botswana
13-14 October – University of Ibadan, Nigeria

The Eastern African Research and Innovations Management Association (EARIMA) Conference is currently taking place (from 30th August to 3rd September 2015) at the Grand Global Hotel in Kampala, Uganda.

The final Programme can be found here. At the Conference Diana Coates of DRUSSA will be facilitating a workshop on the “Basics of Research Uptake Management". There will also be a DRUSSA presentation about the Policy-Research Engagement training of government officials being undertaken in collaboration with the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST).

The West African Research and Innovation Management Association (WARIMA) is organising its ninth International Conference and Workshops around the theme “Research And Innovation For Human Development: Role Of National Institutions In Addressing Threats In Emerging Economies.”
The Conference and Workshops will be held at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, University of Ghana, Legon, from November 23-25, 2015. DRUSSA will be facilitating a half day workshop on the "Basics of Research Uptake Management".

The deadline for submission of abstracts is 11th September. More information on the Conference can be found here. There are limited travel grants available for WARIMA members and associates. The forms to be submitted to WARIMA for travel grant applications can be found here.
