DRUSSA Alert | September 2015
Welcome to the DRUSSA eAlert for September 2015, which keeps you up to date with important DRUSSA activities as well as key networking events. This edition of 'Good Reads' gives you an at-a-glance overview of the Fellowship Programme taking place in Uganda and Ghana, with easy click-throughs to for the meatier versions. September's e-Alert also networks you into the upcoming WARIMA Conference, reminds you to bookmark the SARIMA 2016 Conference, and gives you an update on DRUSSA programme activities in October/November 2015. Here's to making it count!

The DRUSSA programme has been working with academic institutions and government departments in Ghana and Uganda in order to link the supply and demand side of Research Uptake. This is being done through Symposia, Executive Education courses and a Fellowship scheme that places academics in government departments, allowing in-house government access to research expertise.

One of the partners for this activity in Uganda is the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST), and at the recent EARIMA Conference Dr Ismail Barugahara, the Assistant Executive Secretary at UNCST outlined some of the lessons learned in implementing the programme. His blog outlines the role of UNCST and how the programme can be strengthened to have greater impact on Building a Research Evidence culture for Public Policy Management in Uganda.

The Fellowship Programme in Ghana has been an interesting experience for Dr George Adu, from KNUST and he shares his experiences in an interview with
NEWS FROM THE NETWORK: WARIMA President appointed as Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan

The President of WARIMA, Prof Abel Idowu Olayinka has been appointed as the 12th Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan, Nigeria, which is one of the DRUSSA University partners based in Nigeria, West Africa.

Prof Olayinka is the latest WARIMA member to be appointed Vice Chancellor of his University. Others are Prof Bamitale Omole of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Prof Hayward Mafuyai of the University of Jos, Prof Mike Faborode, former VC, OAU and Prof Nuhu Yaqub, former VC, University of Abuja.
Congratulations to the WARIMA President!

The West African Research and Innovation Management Association (WARIMA) is holding its ninth International Conference and Workshops around the theme “Research And Innovation For Human Development: Role Of National Institutions In Addressing Threats In Emerging Economies.”
The Conference and Workshops will be held at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, University of Ghana, Legon, from November 23-25, 2015. DRUSSA will be facilitating a half-day workshop on the "Basics of Research Uptake Management".

SARIMA is looking forward to a stimulating Annual Conference in 2016. The broad theme will centre on the leveraging of unique resources to position Southern Africa’s Research and Innovation globally, but will also explore the challenges and best practices associated with playing on the global field.
